Almost Home!

Hong Kong is a little closer to home-a little closer to civilization as we know it. And we are thrilled! Today, we got up and took a half day tour of Hong Kong. We were joined by a few Australian couples on holiday-all very interested in our adoption story. We left Lantau Island, where we are staying at the Marriott, and took a taxi to Kowloon Island. From there, they transported us by bus, to Hong Kong Island. Our first stop was Victoria Peak-the highest peak on HK Island, at 400 meters, but the highest point in HK is actually on Lantau Island (800 meters). We took the tram to the top, which has been operating since the 1880's! It takes you on a trip to the top, at a 45 degree angle! We also visited a floating fishing village, where 4000 people still live! Fun fact: there are over 7000 skyscrapers in HK! The 8th tallest building is here (I think she said 114 stories). The tallest one here in 1980 is now a midget compared to all of the new ones! We are looking out our hotel room, the same view as 4 years ago EXCEPT-they have built a new island!!!! The once open harbor now has a LARGE man-made island covering much of it! Hong Kong is very small in size, comprised of many islands (many man-made). Around 7 million people here.
